Dental implants in Hungary: cost, timeline and what decides your price

By Márk, founder · Updated 3 September 2026 · guide prices in £ and CA$

Implants are the reason Hungarian dental tourism exists: the biggest UK/Canada price gap, three decades of specialist case volume, and a treatment where doing it properly, twice across two visits, matters more than doing it fast. Here's the full picture, prices first.

Guide ranges from published private price lists, 2026. Your written, itemised quote, based on your X-rays, comes before you book anything.

The maths with flights and accommodation included: from two implants upward the trip pays for itself several times over. It's worked through in the UK comparison and the Canadian comparison.

Two visits, and why

An implant is a titanium root. After placement, your bone grows onto its surface. That process, osseointegration, takes two to four months whether the marketing likes it or not. So implant treatment properly done looks like this:

  1. Before flying: panoramic X-ray and photos → written treatment plan and fixed quote.
  2. Visit one (3–7 days): examination and CT scan, any extractions and bone grafts, implant placement, temporary solutions so you leave presentable. Surgery is usually day two or three; the remaining days are recovery, which is exactly what the spa town is for.
  3. At home (2–4 months): normal life while the implant integrates.
  4. Visit two (5–8 days): abutments and final crowns or bridge, made by the clinic's own lab, fitted and adjusted.

Clinics promising "permanent teeth in a week" on standard implants are loading implants before the bone is ready, and the failure stories write themselves. (The exception with a real clinical basis is full-arch immediate loading: see All-on-4.)

What decides your price

Bone volume comes first. With enough bone the case is straightforward; without it, a graft or sinus lift adds a site fee and sometimes healing time. The CT scan settles which one you are, so never accept a "we'll see when you're in the chair" quote.

Next is the implant system. Premium Swiss and German brands cost somewhat more than equally CE-marked Korean systems, and both are legitimate. What isn't legitimate is an unnamed brand. Whatever you choose, get the brand and batch numbers in writing, because your future dentist will thank you and here's why. The crown material on top, zirconia versus porcelain-fused-to-metal, moves the total by £100–£200 per tooth (see crowns).

Then there is simple arithmetic. Per-unit prices drop as counts rise and the fixed trip cost spreads thinner, which is the economics that make multi-implant and full-arch cases the natural fit for travel.

Who implants suit, and who they don't

Good candidates: missing one or more teeth, healthy or stabilised gums, enough bone (or willingness to graft), and the diary flexibility for two trips. Think twice about: unstable gum disease (fix that first, at home), heavy smoking you won't pause around surgery (integration failure risk rises sharply), medical conditions affecting healing, and single-tooth cases where the savings can't cover the trip. A clinic that takes everyone is a clinic to avoid.

Frequently asked questions

How much do dental implants cost in Hungary?

A single implant with abutment and crown typically costs £900–£1,300 (about CA$1,500–$2,200) in Hungary, against £2,500–£3,500 privately in the UK or CA$4,000–$6,000 in Canada, up to 65% less. Bone grafts, where needed, add £150–£550 per site.

How long do dental implants take in Hungary?

Two visits: 3–7 days for placement, then 2–4 months of integration at home, then 5–8 days for the final teeth. Single-visit \u201cpermanent teeth in a week\u201d offers on standard implants compress biology and raise failure risk.

Which implant brands do Hungarian clinics use?

Reputable clinics use internationally recognised Swiss, German and Korean systems, the same brands placed in UK and Canadian practices, serviceable by any trained dentist worldwide. Get the brand and batch numbers in writing.

Am I too old for dental implants?

Age itself is rarely the barrier. Patients in their seventies and eighties receive implants routinely. Bone volume, gum health and healing-related conditions are what matter, and a CT scan plus medical history review answers it definitively.
